Senior School
Please note: The Senior School is open to girls only.
Entry into St Margaret's Senior School starts in what we call ‘Transition’ (Junior 7 year). At this point, we educate girls only, as we believe that girls learn better in an environment where they are free to develop their minds and are not intimidated or distracted by the presence of boys. St Margaret's School has almost 120 years experience of educating girls to a Senior level, so we are well aware of the advantages to your daughter of a girls-only education, and our aim is to deliver on these expectations during your daughter’s time at the School.

Here are some facts about academic success in girls’ schools (courtesy of http://www.mydaughter.co.uk/).
- At a Higher/Advanced Higher level, girls in independent girls’ schools achieve on average nearly 8% more grade As across all subjects than girls in independent co-ed schools.
- At GCSE (Standard Grade/Intermediate 1 level), girls in independent girls’ schools achieve on average nearly 13% more grade As and A*s in all subjects than girls in independent co-ed schools.
- In maths and sciences the average differential is over 8 % at A level.
- It is not only at the top grades that girls’ schools excel – girls’ schools add value across all abilities.
For more information on why a girls-only education may be a suitable option for your daughter, please have a look at the following website: http://www.mydaughter.co.uk/.
The Senior School continues to follow the Scottish education system, offering a broad range of subjects at all levels between Standard Grade and Advanced Higher.
The Senior School offers girls a family environment in which to develop and flourish, under the guidance of teachers who will care for and encourage each and every girl to achieve what she is capable of at the end of her school career. St Margaret’s is proud of the fact that all pupils are supported to achieve their own personal best in their exams: from Standard Grade through to Advanced Higher.
