Academic Results 2009
Over the last few days we have looked closely at the 2009 SQA results. Initial analysis of these results shows a very positive picture and reflects very well upon the efforts of all our staff and students.
The main points include:
- The quality of standard grade results - 61.5% of our girls sitting these exams attained Credit Grades (1 or 2).
- Our S4 girls performed very well indeed - particularly at Int2 level where 94% attained A or B in their Int2 exams.
- The performance of our girls in their Higher Examinations was excellent. The number of A and B passes were very pleasing, with 65% of all entries being awarded A or B.
- Girls sitting Advanced Highers also performed well - with 72% of our entries gaining A grades.

Every year exceptional circumstances can affect candidate performance, and some of our girls may feel that they could have done better in the final examinations. We will submit Appeals to the SQA in cases where we have quality evidence of underperformance in the final examination. Full Examination results for the school will be published after the Appeals process is completed.

More than 90% of our pupils go on to Higher Education (University) at the end of Senior 6, or possibly at the end of Senior 5, if their Higher Level results permit, but this is not the only departure point. Some move on to vocational courses in Further Education Colleges at the end of Senior 4 or 5 and a few go straight into work.
Higher and Further education institutions and employers alike are looking for much more than good examination results – examples of broader learning and experience, good attitudes, personal values, confidence and resilience will all count.
